Prepare to soar through the fluffy clouds where flocks of birds and butterflies flutter. Explore the dream-like world that waits above us, in this multi-sensory dance experience for families.

Take your little ones on a magical journey with Skydiver and experience how movement, sound and stunning visuals bring whimsical characters to life in an enchanting encounter in the skies.

Greek dance artist, dramaturg and director Xenia Aidonopoulou makes visually stunning dance-theatre works filled with wonder and imagination that will excite the youngest audience members.

PUPPET MAKING WORKSHOP:

Drop-in to the foyer before the show on Wed 25 Oct to make simple paper puppets inspired by Skydiver.  Create a bird or a butterfly to dance in the sky!  Suitable for all ages. Adult supervision is required. Drop in from 11am – 12 noon or 2pm – 2.30pm

POST-SHOW DANCE WORKSHOP:

A thrilling family-friendly dance workshop inspired by Skydiver, led by the talented dance artist Francesca Matthys. This interactive experience will ignite your creativity and transport you to a world where you can play, soar, and bring the sky-bound characters to life, to the originally composed score by Jonny Pilcher.

Suitable for all ages. Adult supervision is required. FREE for people attending the performance. Limited space – reserve your space in advance when book your show tickets using the link above and selecting Workshop & Show Package.

Xenia Aidonopoulou

Xenia is an artist with a background in dance dramaturgy and performance, making visually compelling dance-theatre works. She has worked extensively in dance for the National Theatre of Greece, Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Thessaloniki Concert Hall and Onasis Stagi. Between 2005 and 2017, she worked as a dramaturg and creative consultant with Oktana Dancetheatre and current director of the Greek National Opera Ballet, Konstantinos Rigos. Her work has been presented in venues including Sadler’s Wells, Polka Theatre, South Bank Centre and Royal Opera House. She is a member of the UK Dramaturgs’ Network and Artist Development Troop at Cambridge Junction.

Including Up In The Air a visual arts exhibition and upbeat interactive Aerobics performance. The return of our Family Saturdays arts and crafts for children and their adults.

Plus a special celebration to mark the Windrush 75th Anniversary, with a new dance performance, Joseph – A Windrush Story by Dani Harris-Walters.

Joseph - A Windrush Story

A new dance performance by Dani Harris-Walters, celebrating the 75th Windrush Anniversary. 

Joseph is an elderly man who retells his two grandchildren a story about his journey from the West Indies to the UK.

We see the joy in his eyes as he arrives, the conflict he wasn’t able to predict, and the hope he passes down to the next generation.

 

Up in the Air

Two summers ago, our Up in the Air flight attendants were on board at Summer of Festivals back when we were all grounded for a little while. This postcard exhibition features 88 postcards of festival goers in their dream destinations.

The air hostesses will also be doing an ‘air-obics’ session – a flight attendant themed fitness class for all ages and abilities at 2pm.

Winter Urban Arts Camp 2022

For the upcoming winter school holidays young people can join us at Studio 3 Arts for a creative, fun-packed Urban Arts Camp at our Barking venue in Boundary Road.

With workshops in Dance and Visual Arts, you will create your own Winter Ball! There will be an opportunity to design and make your own clothing and have choreographed dance routines, working with a brilliant team of artists and performers. As an extra winter treat, we’ll be heading out for a few trips – to the theatre to watch a Pantomime and to  Bowling.

IT’S COMPLETELY FREE AND INCLUDES LUNCH EVERY DAY, as part of the Holiday Activities and Food programme.

Studio 3 Arts at The Roundhouse Music Festival 2022

Join Studio 3 Arts and Be & Do in our LGBQTIA+ friendly Pride & Joy Tent at The Roundhouse Music Festival on Sunday 24 July, 12-5pm. 

Everyone is welcome with an upbeat, fun-filled and FREE programme open to all ages.

Guest highlights include everyone’s favourite pantomime dame, Mama G (@mamagstories) who will be telling family friendly stories and songs about being who you want and loving who you are that the whole family will love.

Fancy trying out some Vogue ballroom dancing? Then join Tarek Khwiss (@tarekkhwiss) workshop they aim to empower you through dance. You can also watch spectacular dance performances by leading female Krump and Hip Hop dancers Shortie Buck (@clairesince94) and Stevie (stevie_22).

Plus come and chill in the tent and enjoy great tunes throughout the day cutesy of legendary Dj Roxxxan (@rotriplex).

An enchanting show for 6-24 month olds and their grown ups

Introducing toooB, a curious and friendly shape-shifting creature. She’s not quite sure where she’s landed but she’d love to meet and play with you.

toooB is an enchanting wordless performance for 6-24 month olds and their grown ups. A gentle sensory adventure where a performer is costumed inside a giant caterpillar-like tunnel creation, magically manipulating it before playfully emerging from the tunnel and inviting the audience to play.

With an original soundtrack and captivating movement toooB is designed to be the perfect introduction to theatre and dance for the very young, encouraging empathy and playful interaction.

“It would be hard to top this wonderful new family show for sheer warmth, originality and character (Bournemouth Echo on Angel Exit’s Otto and the Robin)

There is a stay and play session with the performer after the show.

Produce a festival in a week!

Try out drama, dance, art, spoken word, graffiti and more this summer holidays. Working with professional artists to put on your own creative event!

Join Studio 3 Arts Urban Arts Camp as part of the Holiday Activities Fund programme. Choose between Studio 3 Arts’ two locations in Boundary Road, Barking or Heath Park Community Centre, Dagenham.

IT’S COMPLETELY FREE AND INCLUDES LUNCH EVERY DAY.

The camp is for young people aged 8-16 from Barking and Dagenham who are in receipt of Free School Meals, low-income families or otherwise identified as vulnerable. Lunch and IAG (Information Advice & Guidance) packs are all provided and there will be workshops around nutrition, healthy lifestyles and positive choices as part of the programme, plus a trip out.

Limited spaces are also available to those who are not in receipt of Free School Meals.

Funded by The Department of Education.

 

Do-Re-Mi-Ka-Do

Colourful, vibrant live dance performance that's perfect for children aged 2+ and families

Join the party as sound, colour and movement combine to take family audiences into a limitless world of imagination, where children are encouraged to play and creativity knows no boundaries.

Through humour and fun, de Stilte explores the connection between movement and sound – a bodyticking, a mouth gasping, a belly bulging, a foot stepping – while dancers and musicians create their own unique dialogue.

As sound becomes colour and dance turns into music, watch the world grow into wondrous adventure.

Jenia Kasatkina

Jenia Kasatkina studied modern and contemporary dance at the Rotterdam Dance Academy, Codarts. During her education and after her graduation in 2009 she has worked with several companies and choreographers such as: Anouk van Dijk, Jack Gallagher, Arno Schuitemaker, Leine & Roebana, Norrdans, De Stilte, United-C, ALBA theaterhuis, Korzo theatre among the others. In 2012 Jenia became a certified Counter technique teacher and since then she is teaching at different places and companies in Europe and outside of Europe, such as Skånes Dansteater (Sweden), Norrdans (Sweden), Cullberg (Sweden), Balettakademien Stockholm (Sweden), Danscentrum Stockholm (Sweden), Danish Dance Theatre (Denmark), Copenhagen Contemporary Dance School (Denmark), Dancehallerne Copenhagen (Denmark), Codarts Rotterdam University of the Arts (Netherlands), AHK Amsterdam University of Arts (Netherlands), HJS Amsterdam (Netherlands), De Stilte(Netherlands), TSEKH International Centre for Dance and Performance (Russia), Balet Moskva(Russia), Open Look St. Petersburg International festival (Russia), Tanzquartier Wien (Austria), Ballet Landestheater Linz (Austria), Staatstheater Kassel (Germany), Tanztheater Braunschweig (Germany),Dance Theatre Heidelberg (Germany) amongst others. For the past few years Jenia is working in collaboration with the Holland Opera (Netherlands) as achoreographer. Currently Jenia is working as a rehearsal director at Norrdans (Sweden).

Helene Jank

Helene Amelia Rosa Jank (1987, Berlin) is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer ofc ontemporary music-theatre pieces. Jank creates work that thrive on the crossing of movement and sound. Her passion brought her all over the world on stages like Montreaux Jazz Festival and the Ambassadors Theater in London. She worked among other with Orian theater Dance Company (Paris), Stomp (London), Kunstmuseum Linz, and with Maas theater en Dans.
